School Of Industrial Art & Design

Education and training in Industrial Art and Design is the answer that offers the solution to the building establishment and development of the much needed sure technological and creative foundation for the social and economic transformation of any country and culture. It is the mother or generative power of the material culture of any human community, contributing products that satisfy our needs in such areas as clothing, home furnishings and applications, visual media and information technology, as well as tools, equipment, packages and transport vehicles that are used in production and distribution business enterprises. Industrial Artists tend to put more emphasis on both individual and industrial production skills while Industrial Designers put emphasis on the visual representation of their idea and produce specified and detailed drawings to be used by others in the production process.
The school of industrial art and design is one of the pioneer departments of Kampala University, It started as a social science and became a fully-fledged faculty under the name of school of Industrial Art and Design.
The school produces professional art and design educators to meet the demand at different educational levels, also to produce professional self-motivated, fine and industrial artists with entrepreneurial skills, capable of establishing both small and large sale industries.

The school is currently divided into three departments:

School Of Business & Management

The School comprises of six courses which include; Business Administration, Business Computing, Human Resource Management, Leisure, Tourism and Hotel Management, Environmental Management and Credit Management. These courses are offered at Degree, Diploma and Certificate levels. The duration of these courses is three academic years for the degree, two academic years for diploma, and one academic year for Certificate.
The main objective of the programme is to nurture the spirit of business entrepreneurship. The programme will produce graduates who strive to be creators of employment hence the Programme will be a vehicle used to foster sustainable development, progress and prosperity of the people of Uganda and the rest of the world.

School Of Arts and Social Sciences

The degree Programmes provide a framework and practical techniques for effective and efficient management and use of resources and opportunities for sustainable economic development and social change. Impart learners with skills in the management and solving of social problems.
Study societal problems and lobby for policies to address those problems.

School Of Computer Science and Information Technology

The School of Computer Science and Information (SCSIT) is one of the few schools that were accredited by the National Council of Higher Education(NCHE) when Kampala University opened the gates to its pioneer students in the year 1999.The school which is located at the main campus Ggaba was inaugurated by His Majesty Ronald Mutebi II The Kabaka of Buganda on 15 January, 2005.Other than offering academic programmes SCIT works as a service department/help desk in the university.There are 4-5 fulltime staff members always present to provide technical support to students, other schools, and administration. SCSIT has branches in other campuses within the town Kampala and across the country. In Kampala,CSIT programmes are offered at KU City Campus and KU Mutundwe Campus. Other branches are at Jinja, Luweero and Masaka. SCSIT is fast growing and one of the high performing faculty, recognized by NCHE at each visit.

School Of Education

The School of Education is one of the pioneer schools that started the academic progress of Kampala University. This school is made up of four departments that compose its accredited academic programs that conform to the National Council for Higher Education regularities. The School is mandated to produce competent and quality teachers of National and Global Impact.
Our programs are designed to prepare tomorrow's teachers, administrators, policymakers, specialists, designers and researchers to be life-changing leaders. This underpins our commitment to prepare our students to meet the demanding needs of a constantly changing society and to excel in a variety of roles after graduating.
The School of Education also understands the changing needs and diverse schedules of today's students, so we provide the in-service program.

Objectives

The programme aims at equipping students with competencies that shall enable them to teach Arts and Science subjects in secondary schools and tertiary institutions. Specifically, the Bachelor of Education Arts and Sciences degree programme has been proposed with the view of meeting the following needs/demands in the East Africa region:-
i) To satisfy the demand for teachers at secondary school level.
ii) To satisfy the demand for trainers at tertiary institutions.
The need for trained manpower in Arts and Science related subjects in research and non – governmental institutions in East African region.
The need to further education in Arts and Sciences as well as acquiring the necessary skills, knowledge and attitudes in these areas of specialization.
The need for producing practical, knowledgeable, efficient and competent teachers who shall contribute to the process of development in the rural urban areas of East Africa.
The degree programme must cover university-wide courses, University Common Courses, the areas of specialization courses and electives. To qualify for graduation a student is required to pass minimum requirements set by the department and subsequently the senate.

A candidate registering for a Bachelor of Education Degree takes all the courses offered in the faculty of Education and is required to combine a major and a minor in the service faculties. Such combination is subject to the approval of the department.

School Of Nursing and Health Sciences

Kampala University School of Nursing and Health Sciences is an affiliate school of Kampala University. It is a private institution, accredited by the Uganda Nurses and Midwives Council (UNMC), It is located 4 Km from Kampala City Centre, off Masaka Road, Sembule junction, at Mutundwe (Kigagga zone). The school will initially start with a certificate in Nursing and Midwifery awarded by the Uganda Nurses and Midwives Council, in addition to that awarded by Kampala University.
The course lasts 2 ½ years. The course aims at providing competence-based training in skills required by a modern Nurse/Midwife. The programme is open to both male (limited vacancies) and female applicants.

Mission
The Mission of Kampala School of Nursing and Health Sciences is “ to produce a Nurse with high degree of integrity and voluntarism who can advance in education, contribute to nursing administration, research, and improve on health services offered to the public, and can conform to international standards.

  • At least 5 passes in English, Biology, Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics or it's equivalent at O' level-not more than 3 years out of school

  • For Direct students from A' Level(3 years)
  • Should have a principal pass in Biology
