Kampala University Signs an MoU with Raising Hope International Friends

Friday 28th July 2023 has been a special day when Kampala University(KU) and Raising Hope International Friends (RHIF) are signing a Memorandum of Understanding at Victoria University in Kampala during the 2nd Annual Sickle cell convention organized on the theme" Breaking Barriers, Building Hope for Sickle cell.

This formal union of the two, will center on a number of workable areas which include but not limited to the combining of resources of both parties to conduct sickle cell research and Education among University Students, Staff and the general public. Furthermore, the collaboration will also aim at raising of awareness, improvement of health care services and contributing to the advancement of Knowledge in the field of sickle cell disease.

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor in charge of Academics Research Innovation and Internationalization of Kampala University Dr Wardah M Rajab Gyagenda signed on behalf of the University and Mr Isaac Okello signed on behalf of Raising Hope International Friends. A number of staff from Kampala University accompanied the DVC to witness this noble wedding i.e Dr.Nathan Wakhungu, Dr.Boniface Byanaku, Dr.Twatwa Mutwala ente Jeremiah, Dr.Elizabeth Mukisa, Mr Julius Ssekatawa, Mr Mugalu Augustine, Mrs.Harriet Nakanyike, Mrs.Gartrude Teremuka, Mrs. Susan Oyesigire, Mr.Mudathir Ibrahim, Sr.Njuguna, Sr.Justine, Nurses, Midwives and Health Science Students from the KU Nursing School Mutundwe.

During this flamboyant function, the Uganda's Minister of Health was represented by Dr.Charles Kiyaga who updated all and Sundry that the Ministry will do its best to continue supporting the sicklers across the Country. He whispered to the congregation that Government is developing a robust sickle cell kit that will be distributed to different hospitals in the Country.

Dr. Kiyiga said that many Countries want to learn from Uganda on how to fight the debacle of sickle cell and encouraged the worriers to not loose heart and hope because Government support is always guaranteed.

On the function, Hon.Derrick Oren the Patron of Raising Hope International Friends contributed Five Million shillings to support its activities.
Many speakers that include Dr.Twata Mutwala ente Jeremiah, Dr.Donna MC Curry, Dr.Yutaka, Dr Sabrina Bakeera, Mrs.Vanessa Vogel, Dr Deo Munube, Mr.Pepe Minambo, Mrs Evelyn Mwesigwa, Dr.Kasirye Philip, Dr.Robert Johnson, Mrs Kasango Lwimba, Mrs Joanitah Katasi, Mr.Julius Bukyana all gave a message of hope to the sicklers.
