Kampala University VC Urge Lecturers To Embrace New Technologies, Research and Innovations

While addressing lecturers during the meeting he usually conducts at the beginning of the new semester, the Kampala University founding Vice-Chancellor Owek.Amb.Al-haj Prof.Badru Kateregga advised University dons to embrace new technologies and put research and innovations at the fore front of their academic offerings on 5th August 2024 at Ggaba Main Campus.

The Professor highlighted that the use of new technologies and online agenda should always be embraced because it will greatly support increasing the number of students and actualizing the University digitalization program. Besides, this is the only way we can support our long distance programme so as to make it more meaningful and applicable for the majority of our students, he said.

Prof Kateregga (East Africa’s longest-serving Vice-Chancellor) also reminded lecturers that they’re operating in an institution of higher learning where the generation of new knowledge (Research and Innovation) is a critical factor in its context. Without research, individual or institutional, Universities may remain glorified secondary schools, and he called up members to individually and collectively embark on joint or individual research to take Kampala University to greater horizons and their good selves.

The Vice-Chancellor also emphasized the matter of customer care, where he said that the concept of customer care is for all of us to observe at all levels. The moment you have been employed here at Kampala University as a lecturer or in any other capacity, you must take good care of our customers, (students), handle them with utmost care, guide them and own them up, Prof Said.

He guided that teaching should take off immediately, “I would like to call upon all lecturers to start their lectures on the first day of the semester as scheduled on the timetables. You should appear and teach the students even if it’s one student who has turned up in the first lecture” the VC emphasized.

Members who attended this important gathering include but were not limited to; the Director of Finance and Marketing Mrs. Jolly Kateregga, the Academic Registrar Mr.Hamza Segawa, Director of Quality Assurance Prof.Chris W.N Kirunda, the Human Resource Manager Mrs.Flora Damba Rukundo, Campus Directors, Deans, P.R.O, HODs and all lectures from the five Campuses of Kampala University.

Meeting lecturers at the beginning of the semester helps to lay a strong foundation for a successful semester by ensuring everyone is on the same page and prepared for the duties ahead.

The semester started on that very day (5th August 2024) across all Campuses.
