On a bright, sunny Saturday morning, 5th October 2024, the Jinja Campus of Kampala University was full of excitement as the Buganda Premier Owekitiibwa Charles Peter Mayiga was arriving to meet the youth in Busoga region.

As the Katikkiro’s convoy approached the campus, the traditional drumming and singing began, filling the air with vibrant cultural expressions. Dressed in his elegant conventional attire, Katikkiro Mayiga stepped out to a warm welcome. The university officials, led by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor in Charge of Academics, Research, Innovation, and Internationalisation, Dr. Wardah Rajab M. Gyagenda, and the Campus Director, Mr. Richard Kaberuka, received him with respect and gratitude.

He encouraged the students to pursue their studies diligently, uphold their cultural heritage, and become responsible leaders.

The Founding Vice-Chancellor of Kampala University, Owekitiibwa Amb. Al-Haj Prof. Badru D. Kateregga, in his submission, technically advised the general public and the line ministry in charge of Kingdom Youth to come up with a curriculum for EKyoto ( ekyoto literally means a gathering place around a fireplace, where community members come together to share knowledge, stories, and engage in meaningful discussions). The curriculum will provide structure, direction, and consistency to the educational process of ekyoto Prof. emphasised. The VC also added that the curriculum sets clear learning goals and objectives, ensuring that learners acquire the necessary knowledge, skills, and competencies at the end of the ekyoto program, therefore, someone shouldn’t just come with any content that he or she thinks can work and teach it without any parameters and guidance, Prof. advised.

Prof. Kateregga thanked the Katikkiro for the decent relationship Kampala University enjoys with the Kingdom, he also said that since the university’s inception, it has been supporting Nkobazambogo activities and it will continue in the same direction. On behalf of the university, he bought a certificate of one Million Uganda shillings to support Kingdom activities.

In the same vein, Professor Kateregga thanked the Busoga region for hosting Kampala University Jinja Campus with heartfelt and boundless love, we are so much indebted to you, our people from this region.

The Katikkiro’s visit was a significant moment, as it highlighted the importance of education and the ongoing relationship between the Kingdom of Busoga, Buganda and Institutions of higher learning.
