The Katereggas Meet KU Lecturers

A few weeks ago, the founding Vice-Chancellor of Kampala University, Owek.Amb.Al-haj Prof.Badru D Kateregga who is currently still under medical attention, informed all and sundry that he has officially introduced his Children in the Management of Kampala University and the BDK Universities Network International so that they propel his legacy to greater heights. This was well evidenced during the lecturers’ meeting held at Ggaba Campus on the 23rd day of October 2024.

The recent meeting between the Children of the Vice Chancellor (Mrs.Rashidah Kateregga, Mrs.Sarah Kateregga and Mr.Muhamad Faquih Kateregga who represented the rest) and lecturers marked a pivotal moment in shaping a more lively direction of this Institution.

In this much-anticipated meeting, lecturers from all the five Campuses gathered to engage with the new leadership team, hoping to address long-standing concerns while setting the agenda for the future of the BDK legacy.

In the meeting that was chaired by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor in charge of Academics, Research, Innovation and Internationalisation, Dr.Wardah Rajab Gyagenda, the Katereggas led by Mrs.Rashidah Kateregga thanked lecturers for turning up in big numbers and for the great work they do as far as supporting the University programmes is concerned.

She informed members that the Vice-Chancellor is trying to get better and as soon as he is okay, he will be coming back for work as usual.  She emphasised the importance of fostering a collaborative environment if we’re to take our university far.

Additionally, Mrs.Rashidah and team happily promised to keep a keen eye in the staff remuneration in order to have a pleasant environment for everyone. I know it is not easy but you will bear with us as we are trying our best to make you happy soon, let us work together with the same target and mind, moving towards the same direction, good things are coming soon, she highlighted.

Mrs.Sarah Kateregga informed members that she has ever worked in the University film School before, she likes storytelling and writing, and she called upon members to have mutual support with every one for the good of this lovely University.

Mr.Muhamad Faquih Kateregga in his submission, thanked lecturers for carrying on the vision and mission of Kampala University, he informed them that soon the Vice-Chancellor will be coming back for work, let us continue praying for him.  In life, this is the first time for our Daddy to be hospitalized, he is ever okay due to the fact that he is workaholic, Mr .Faquih said.

He added that the Katereggas have not come to fight with anyone but to take the BDK legacy to greater horizons together with you members of staff.

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor in charge of Academics, Research, Innovation, and Internationalisation, Dr.Wardah Rajab Gyagenda, informed members that the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) has re-accredited most of the Kampala University curricula  that were recently submitted, as well as approving the new courses that include, but are not limited to, Bachelor of Oil and Gas Management, Bachelor of Islamic Banking, Bachelor of Interior and Landscape Design, Bachelor of Library, archives, and records management, to mention but a few .

She encouraged members to continuously embrace the digitalization and systematisation agenda of the University in their respective schools and Departments.

Lecturers, in turn, brought up some of their pressing concerns, which were duly responded to by the DVC, the Katereggas, Human Resource Manager, Academic Registrar, Quality Assurance Directorate and others.

The lecturers were much pleased after meeting the new leadership, who brought a refreshing approach and vision to the table. The Katereggas' openness to innovative ideas, emphasis on collaboration, and commitment to fostering a supportive academic environment left a positive impression. Their approach seems to align well with the lecturers’ aspirations for academic excellence and student-centered growth, leaving everyone hopeful and optimistic about the direction the university is heading.
