Kampala University Jinja Campus Staff and Students Participate in Sickle Cell Marathon

On the 9th day of March 2025, Kampala University Jinja Campus staff and students took an active role in this year's Sickle Cell Marathon, demonstrating their commitment to community service and health awareness. The event, held in Jinja, aimed to raise awareness and support for individuals affected by sickle cell disease.

Organised by the Sickle Cell Foundation of Uganda in partnership with Raising Hope International Friends, the marathon attracted hundreds of participants from various institutions and organisations. The event featured a 5-kilometre run, walk, and cycling challenge, allowing people of all fitness levels to participate in the cause.

Kampala University Jinja Campus was well-represented, with students and staff enthusiastically joining the race, some running competitively while others walked in solidarity with sickle cell warriors.

This marathon is not just about running; it’s about standing with those battling sickle cell disease and showing them they are not alone.

The proceeds from the event will go towards medical support, awareness campaigns, and research aimed at improving the lives of individuals living with sickle cell disease in Uganda.

With their active participation, the Kampala University Jinja Campus community reinforced the importance of unity, compassion, and making a difference beyond the classroom.
