Kampala University Vice-Chancellor and Deputy Honoured at State House

It was a moment of joy as the founding Vice-Chancellor of Kampala University, Owek. Amb. Al-Haj Prof. Badru Dungu Kateregga and his Deputy, Dr. Wardah Rajab Gyagenda, were honoured with prestigious awards by the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council. Prof. Kateregga received the Muslim Professional Excellence Award in the male category, while Dr. Gyagenda was awarded the Muslim Professional Excellence Award in the female category.

The awards were presented at State House Entebbe during an Iftar dinner hosted by H.E. President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on March 25, 2025, in honour of the Muslim community.

Prof. Kateregga’s award was received on his behalf by his son, Mr. Muhamed Faquih Kateregga, a key stakeholder at Kampala University.

It is worth noting that, toward the end of last year, as part of the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council’s 50th anniversary celebrations, an online nomination and voting process was conducted. Various individuals were recognised for their outstanding contributions to humanity in different categories.

The Kampala University Vice-Chancellor and Deputy Vice-Chancellor were nominated by Ugandans in the respective categories and emerged victorious, reflecting the immense admiration and respect they have earned both locally and globally.

This achievement is not only a personal victory for the awardees but a proud moment for the entire Kampala University community.

During the event, H.E. the President commended the Muslim community for their observance of Ramadan and emphasised the importance of unity and economic empowerment.
