Dr. Maureen Muwanga Senoga

Dean, School of Industrial Art and Design

Dr. Maureen Muwanga Senoga is an accomplished academic and researcher specializing in ceramics, art education, and vocational pedagogy. She holds a PhD in Education from York University, Toronto, Canada, where her doctoral research focused on ceramics pedagogy within university settings. Currently, she serves as the Dean of the School of Industrial Art and Design at Kampala University, where she also coordinates the development of Open, Distance and e-Learning (ODeL) modules.

With a career spanning over three decades, Dr. Senoga has played a pivotal role in curriculum development for both undergraduate and postgraduate programs in art, industrial design, and vocational teacher education. Her academic work is deeply rooted in cultural heritage, material culture, and the use of visual media in addressing societal issues such as substance abuse and gender-based challenges.

She has led and collaborated on numerous research projects, including partnerships with York University and the Uganda National Museum, and has contributed to Uganda’s first Cultural Policy. Her scholarship includes peer-reviewed journal articles, book chapters, and international conference presentations on themes like social media in museum education, gender and multiculturalism in vocational training, and visual arts for social transformation.

Dr. Senoga is also a dedicated supervisor and external examiner at both master's and doctoral levels, and she serves on several academic and cultural boards, including the UNESCO Uganda Culture Committee and the YMCA Kampala Branch. Her work is widely recognized for advancing the integration of indigenous knowledge, arts education, and social responsibility in academic and community settings.
