Colors, Dance, and Heritage Shine at Kampala University’s 2025 Cultural Gala
Joy and excitement filled the air at Kampala University’s Luweero Campus as students from all five Campuses -Ggaba, Luweero, Masaka, Jinja, and Mutundwe-gathered to showcase and celebrate their diverse cultures. The three-day event, held from October 16th to 18th, was a lively celebration of cultural heritage, featuring traditional dances, music, drama, poetry, and fashion shows.

In his remarks, Owek. Amb.Al-haj Prof. Badru D. Kateregga, the founding Vice Chancellor of Kampala University who was the Chief Guest, emphasized the profound role of culture in shaping identity and guiding societal values. He remarked, "Culture defines us. It influences our interactions, our virtues, and even our education and beliefs." He encouraged students to embrace and preserve their rich cultural heritage as a source of strength and identity.

The gala also saw the crowning of Kampala University Miss Culture and Mr. Culture where Ms. Elamin Suzy Elsir Adlan a South Sudanese by Nationality from Ggaba Campus and Mr. Yawe Mudashur Kasibante from Jinja Campus were honored, receiving accolades and cash prizes.

From the 27 student associations that ably participated, Luweero Campus's Nkobazambogo emerged as the overall winner, followed by the Bakonjo Students Association still from Luweero Campus, Nkobazambogo Masaka Campus was number three, no.4 Zambogo Ggaba Campus, Basoga Nseete Jinja Campus emerged no.5.

The association of Kenyan Students at Kampala University (AKESKU) emerged the best International Students association followed by the Kampala University South Sudanese Students’ Association (KUSSA) for their vibrant cultural displays.
The event was further enlivened by performances from renowned artists such as Caro Kasita and Fik-Fameica, as well as an engaging inter-campus quiz where Luweero Campus clinched the top spot followed by Ggaba.
Looking ahead, the 2026 Cultural Gala will be hosted by Masaka Campus, promising another year of vibrant cultural exchange.
