Freshers Ushered into Campus Life with Grace at Kampala University
Kampala University, one of Uganda’s leading institutions of higher learning, ushered in its new students for the August 2025 intake in a colorful and inspiring orientation program held across all its five campuses-Ggaba Main Campus, Luweero, Masaka, Mutundwe, and Jinja. The semester officially commenced on 4th August 2025, with a week-long orientation tailored to equip freshers with the knowledge, guidance, and confidence to begin their academic journey in style.
The program was officially opened by the Academic Registrar, Mr. Segawa Hamza on 11th August 2025, who emphasized the significance of discipline, commitment, and academic excellence. Throughout the week, new students were taken through a series of interactive sessions covering key topics such as ‘overcoming vices in tertiary institutions, cultism, rape, computer fraud, essential security tips, The history of Kampala University, fresher’s life as an adventurous journey, mental health and wellness ,personal security, social interactions, and the hills and valleys of university life.
On 14th August 2025, the orientation reached its climax with the presence of the Resident Director and Vice-Chairperson Board of Trustees, Ms. Rashidah Kateregga, who warmly welcomed the new students to the Kampala University family. She thanked them for choosing Kampala University as their academic home and assured them of the best support to shape their future, urging them to aim higher with confidence and determination.
In her message, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Wardah M. Rajab-Gyagenda, congratulated the students on their achievement so far and encouraged them to remain focused on their studies. She assured them of the University’s readiness to provide a greater environment that fosters excellence, innovation, and holistic growth.
The Dean of Students, Mr. Mugalu Augustine, who spearheaded the entire week-long program, guided the students through Kampala University’s core values, emphasizing respect, hard work, and integrity.
In addition, various Deans of Schools and Heads of Departments introduced students to their respective programs, sharing valuable insights on academic expectations, personal development, and the do’s and don’ts of campus life.
The orientation further attracted the participation of key staff, including the University Administrator Ms.Naila Florence, department heads, lecturers, coordinators, and representatives from sports, IT, examinations, finance, marketing, quality assurance, and security. The vibrant presence of the Guild President, H.E. Lubega Mubarak, and the entire Guild Council added a student leadership perspective, reassuring freshers of a supportive and engaging campus experience.
The semester officially began on 4th August 2025 and registration for new applicants is still on.
