Kampala University Marks Mental Health Awareness Day with Wellness Activities

Kampala University joined the rest of the world in commemorating Mental Health Awareness Day on 10th October 2025 with a vibrant series of health and wellness activities held at the Ggaba Main Campus. The event, held under the theme “Your Culture, Your Health, Your Pride,” emphasized the importance of holistic well-being among the University’s staff and students.

The day’s program was organized in partnership with the National Blood Bank, Uganda Red Cross Society, UPEMB, and Hope Clinic Lukuli. In line with the focus on physical and mental wellness, participants took part in a blood donation an exercise aimed at supporting life-saving causes. Health professionals also offered free medical screenings for Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) such as hypertension, diabetes, and obesity.

In addition, nutritional screening formed an integral part of the event-highlighting the role of proper diet in maintaining mental and emotional stability. Professional counselors led interactive sessions on stress management, recognizing signs of burnout, and cultivating a positive mindset, drawing keen interest from attendees.

Students from the Kampala University School of Nursing and Health Sciences at Mutundwe Campus played a vital role in supporting the health screenings sexercise and offering health education to participants.  

As the day drew to a close, participants engaged in an energetic evening workout session featuring aerobics and light stretches, led by a professional fitness instructor. The activity served as a reminder of the importance of physical exercise in promoting mental well-being.

The well-coordinated event was spearheaded by Ms. Carol Achola PA-VC/HRM, in collaboration with the Kampala University Executive Office. It was officially opened by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor , Dr. Wardah M. Rajab Gyagenda, who lauded the initiative as both timely and impactful .
