Matovu Najim Takes Helm of KU Nkobazambogo As Leaders Urge Unity And Cultural Pride
Colour and celebration marked the Kampala University Nkobazambogo Students Association leadership handover on 3 October 2026, as members gathered at Ggaba Main Campus to witness the transfer of authority from outgoing Chairperson Nakamate Sylivia to incoming Chairperson Mr. Matovu Najim.

The ceremony brought together students, university staff and visiting youth leaders, ushering in a new chapter for the association with calls for academic excellence, unity, cultural pride and committed service.
Presiding as Chief Guest, the Chairperson of the Buganda Youth Council, Counsel Derrick Kavuma, encouraged members to take their studies seriously while actively contributing to the growth of their association. He urged students to work tirelessly, support one another, cherish their culture and uphold their love for Kampala University.

His message challenged members to recognise that their responsibilities extend beyond holding office or participating in association activities. Academic commitment, mutual support and respect for their institution, he emphasised, should guide their conduct as students and young leaders.
Counsel Kavuma was accompanied by the National Chairperson of Nkobazambogo’s National Executive Committee, Ms. Nalujja Racheal, who called for unity and encouraged members to establish association projects. Her remarks placed collective effort and practical initiatives at the centre of the association’s continued growth.

The ceremony was attended by the Academic Registrar, Mr. Segawa Hamza Ahmed; the Deputy Academic Registrar, Dr. Ssimbwa Peter; the Association Patron, Ms. Stella Nabukenya; Ms. Nabula Faridah; and Ms. Nagirinya Rashida, among other members of staff.

A central message throughout the occasion was the importance of continuity. The outgoing cabinet was encouraged to remain involved and support the incoming leadership, ensuring that the experience gained during its tenure continues to benefit the association.
The new cabinet, headed by Mr. Matovu Najim, was urged to work hard, strengthen cooperation among members and dedicate itself to advancing the association’s interests. The handover underscored the responsibility that comes with leadership and the need for each cabinet to build upon the work of its predecessors.

Held annually, the association’s leadership handover provides an opportunity to transfer authority, recognise outgoing leaders and welcome a new team into office.
As the new cabinet begins its term, the calls made at Ggaba Main Campus offer a clear direction: pursue academic excellence, strengthen unity, develop meaningful projects and preserve cultural pride through active participation and service.
