Overview

The Bachelor of Education with Geography programme is designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills needed to teach geography at secondary and tertiary levels. It integrates both theoretical and practical aspects of geography and education.

Objectives

  • Provide students with knowledge about the earth's natural environment and its relationship with society.
  • Equip students with technological skills in spatial analysis, cartography, and Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
  • Prepare students to teach geography effectively using modern pedagogical approaches.
  • Develop students’ research and analytical skills in environmental and human geography.

Philosophy

The programme is based on the belief that geography plays a vital role in understanding the environment and solving global challenges related to climate change, urbanization, and sustainable development.

Learning Outcome

  • Understand key geographic concepts, including climate change, natural resources, and human-environment interaction.
  • Apply Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and remote sensing techniques in spatial analysis.
  • Conduct environmental impact assessments and research in geography-related fields.
  • Teach geography effectively at different education levels.

Entry Requirements

Direct Entry: Two principal passes at UACE, including Geography.

Diploma Entry: A diploma in education or geography-related fields from a recognized institution.

Mature Age Entry: Candidates must be at least 22 years old and pass a mature age examination.

Higher Education Certificate (HEC): Must have passed a relevant HEC accredited by NCHE with a distinction or credit.
