Kampala University Strengthens Travel Technology Training With Sabre GDS Access
Kampala University has strengthened practical training in tourism and hospitality after lecturers received capacity-building training in the Sabre Global Distribution System (GDS), alongside free access to the platform for teaching and student learning.
Held on Saturday, 24 October 2026, the training equipped lecturers from the Tourism and Hospitality Management Department with knowledge and practical skills to bring industry-relevant travel technology into the classroom.

The initiative will give students an opportunity to practise using a GDS for travel reservations and related services, helping connect academic learning with the systems and working practices used in the travel industry.
Organised by University Management, the programme was coordinated by Mr. James Naboth Ahimbisibwe, Principal of the Kampala University Technical School. It focused on strengthening lecturers’ ability to deliver practical instruction and prepare students for the technological demands of their future careers.
The sessions were facilitated by Mr. Lwanga Edward Brown, Sabre Account Manager in Uganda, and Ms. Nandudu Irene, Sabre Helpdesk Support. The facilitators introduced participants to the system and guided them through practical exercises designed to build familiarity and confidence in its use.

Access to the platform provides an important teaching resource for the department. Lecturers will be able to complement theoretical instruction with practical activities, allowing students to develop their understanding of travel technology through direct experience.
The programme also supports the professional development of lecturers, strengthening their capacity to guide students through technology-based tasks relevant to tourism and hospitality employment.

The department further thanked Mr. Lwanga Edward Brown and Ms. Nandudu Irene for sharing their expertise and helping lecturers develop the skills needed to use the platform in teaching.
By combining lecturer development with access to travel technology, the initiative strengthens Kampala University’s capacity to provide practical, career-focused education. It offers Tourism and Hospitality students a valuable opportunity to build technical competence alongside their academic knowledge as they prepare to enter the industry.
