Kampala University Hosts Grand Iftar and Dua, Promoting Unity and Spiritual Reflection During Ramadan
Kampala University held a grand Iftar dinner and special Dua prayers on March 6, 2026, at its main campus in Ggaba, bringing together Muslims and guests from various communities to break the fast and strengthen bonds of unity during the holy month of Ramadan.
The annual gathering, which has become a cherished tradition at the university, provided a moment for reflection, prayer, and community engagement as participants shared the blessings of the sacred month.

The host and chief guest, Owek.Amb.Al-haj Prof .Badru D. Kateregga, the founding Vice Chancellor of Kampala University, emphasized the spiritual importance of the event, describing it as a time for gratitude, unity, and collective prayer.
“This gathering is about reflection, gratitude, and unity. It is a time to pray for our families, our institution, and our nation while also sharing the blessings of Ramadan with the community,” Prof. Kateregga said.

He noted that the Iftar dinner and Dua prayers are organized every year as a moment of remembrance and togetherness, while also serving as a tribute to members of the university family and an opportunity to give thanks. Prof. Kateregga also expressed appreciation to members of the community for their continued support and prayers.
The event attracted several prominent leaders and religious figures, including the Deputy Speaker of the Buganda Kingdom Great Lukiiko, Owek.Ahmed Lwasa, as well as Islamic scholars such as Sheikh Mahmoud Walukagga ,Wakiso District Khathi Elias Kigozi and Buikwe Khathi Shekh Sadat.

Other dignitaries in attendance included Owek.Noah Kiyimba, Owek.Mariam Mayanja, Hon.Sarah Kanyike, and several community leaders, alongside university staff, students, friends, and relatives of Prof. Kateregga from Butambala District.
The gathering also welcomed some of the eleven newly elected members of the upcoming 12th Parliament who studied at Kampala University, highlighting the institution’s growing role in shaping national leadership. Among them were Hon.Ayagalakyi Mukuve Jamal, Member of Parliament-elect for Bukooli North County, Hon.Jovia Katusiime, Woman MP-elect for Kiryandongo District, Hon.Benard Mugoya Mutebi, MP-elect for Bulamogi Constituency, and Hon.Sarah Lwansasula, Woman MP-elect for Jinja District.
The event concluded with collective prayers and a shared meal, reinforcing the spirit of unity, compassion, and community that defines Ramadan. Participants praised Kampala University for maintaining the tradition, which continues to bring together leaders, scholars, and the wider community in a shared commitment to faith and service
