Kampala University Storm into UFL Quarterfinals with Commanding Win over KIU
Kampala University delivered a composed and clinical performance to defeat rivals Kampala International University 2–0, sealing their place in the quarterfinals of the 2025/26 Pepsi University Football League.
The decisive Group A clash, played on March 15 at FUFA Kadiba Stadium, saw Kampala University rise to the occasion in a match that carried high stakes for both sides. The victory ensured KU finished top of the group with 13 points, while KIU’s campaign came to a disappointing end.
Kampala University asserted control in the first half and broke the deadlock in the 37th minute through forward Samuel Ayebare. The striker capitalized on a defensive lapse, calmly slotting home to give his side a deserved lead heading into the break.

Despite showing flashes of attacking intent, KIU struggled to convert their chances, with their finishing letting them down at crucial moments. Defensive frailties further compounded their challenges, ultimately costing them progression from the group.
KU remained disciplined in the second half, maintaining shape and composure as they absorbed pressure from their rivals. Their resilience paid off deep into stoppage time when midfielder Gideon Nsubuga sealed the victory with a well-taken goal, sparking celebrations among the Ggaba-based side.
The win marked a significant milestone for Kampala University under the guidance of head coach Vicent Tumusiime, whose tactical approach and squad management proved decisive in navigating a competitive group stage.

Team captain Wafula David led from the back, marshaling a defense that kept KIU at bay, while standout performances from players such as Nsubuga Gideon and Ayebare Samuel highlighted KU’s balance between midfield creativity and attacking efficiency.
Kampala University’s starting lineup featured Wafula David (GK, C), Epaja James, Nsubuga Benjamin, Owao Simon Peter, Nsubuga Gideon, Kimera Joseph, Okema David, Wanume Gilbert, Kiwewa Raymond, and Ayebare Samuel. The bench provided depth with options including Ogera Muhammad, Azabo Kevin, Ebong Mark, Abdu Karim Kirwana, Muyingo Brian, Opio John Mark, and Adiru Kizito.
With momentum firmly on their side, Kampala University now turns its attention to the quarterfinals, where they are set to face Bugema University on a date yet to be confirmed.
For KIU, the result signals the end of their UFL journey this season, as missed opportunities and costly defensive errors ultimately proved decisive in a tightly contested Group A race.
