A Fatherly Touch: VC Kateregga Encourages KU Students in Grand General Assemblies
In an extraordinary demonstration of vigor, assurance, and love for his University, the Founding Vice-Chancellor of Kampala University, Owek. Amb. Al-haj Prof. Badru D. Kateregga, successfully conducted a week-long marathon of General Assemblies across all five campuses of Kampala University. With energy and fatherly grace, the Vice-Chancellor carried a unifying message of encouragement, discipline, and academic excellence to his beloved students and staff.
The journey of inspiration began on Monday, 1st September 2025, when the Vice-Chancellor’s motorcade entered Mutundwe Campus to a jubilant welcome by in-service students, nurses, and staff. Addressing the gathering, Prof. Kateregga encouraged students to study hard for better grades, make the best use of their time at Kampala University, and embrace the University’s culture of quality. He warmly welcomed the new in-service students and applauded the continuing learners for their love and determination to academic advancement.
On Tuesday, 2nd September 2025, the Vice-Chancellor shifted his attention to Jinja Campus. Thousands of students and staff turned out to welcome him with great enthusiasm. In his address, he reminded students that as in-service learners, they have multiple responsibilities - academic, professional, and family, and success lies in balancing these roles with discipline. “Manage your time wisely, and let discipline be your guiding principle,” he counseled.
The inspirational tour continued on Thursday, 4th September 2025, with Masaka Campus hosting the assembly. Known for training a large community from the Greater Masaka region, this campus is already setting up new state-of-the-art structures to meet the modern learning environment. Prof. Kateregga urged students to focus constantly on their studies, uphold the vision and mission of Kampala University, and relentlessly pursue academic excellence.
The next day, the Vice-Chancellor’s convoy turned to Luweero Campus, where he was once again joyfully welcomed. His message to the students emphasized the value of collaboration and networking. “The friendships and professional networks you build here will serve you beyond the classroom. Share knowledge, exchange experiences, and support one another in your journey to success,” he encouraged.
Across all campuses, the General Assemblies were interactive and inclusive, drawing both in-service and full-time students. The Vice-Chancellor also held fruitful meetings with staff members, emphasizing that with the commitment of the new University management team, Kampala University’s star will continue to shine even brighter. He called for positive cooperation from both students and staff to move the University to greater heights.
The Vice-Chancellor was accompanied by a strong delegation of senior officials, including Deputy Resident Director Mr. Faquih Muhamed Kateregga, Mr. Faisal Mubiru ,Deputy Vice-Chancellor Dr. Wardah M. Rajab Gyagenda, Consultant for Finance and General Duties Mr. Kamoga Ronald, Deputy Academic Registrar Ms. Winnie Bamusiima, Director Operations Mr. Shakool Wahab, University Administrator Ms. Naila Florence, PA-VC/HRM Ms. Carol Achola, Public Relations Officer Mr. Ssekatawa Julius Abubakar, Dean of Students Mr. Mugalu Augustine, National Marketing Coordinator Ms. Apaje Esther, and Mr. Mark.
Being a senior citizen and one of East Africa’s most distinguished investors in education, Prof. Kateregga also moved with a solid security detail to ensure his safety throughout the extensive tour.
The much-anticipated Ggaba Main Campus General Assembly is also scheduled soon, where more students and staff are eager to hear the Vice-Chancellor’s motivating message.
Indeed, the week-long series of General Assemblies strengthened the bond between the University leadership and students ratifying Kampala University’s place as a shining example of academic excellence, discipline, and opportunity.
