Prof. Kateregga’s Birthday Marked by Continental Honour for Education and Scouting Excellence
KAMPALA, UGANDA - December 21, 2025: Protea Hotel Kampala Skyz Naguru was awash with celebration, distinction, and warm tributes as the Founding Vice-Chancellor of Kampala University, Owek. Amb. Al-Haj Prof. Badru Dungu Kateregga, marked his birthday in memorable fashion - crowned by the conferment of the highly coveted African Elephant Award.

The elegant ceremony drew an impressive gathering of VIPs from diverse sectors across Uganda and the region, emphasizing Prof. Kateregga’s far-reaching influence in education, youth development, entrepreneurship, and the global scouting movement.

Accompanied by his family—Sons, Daughters, grandchildren—alongside aides and security, Prof. Kateregga arrived to a warm reception befitting a statesman of education. In his address, he expressed heartfelt gratitude to his family for their solid support, particularly during challenging moments he has faced. He also thanked relatives, Kampala University staff, Scouts, and friends for their steadfast assurance and love, noting their shared allegiance to the growth and mission of Kampala University.

A highlight of the evening was the presentation of the African Elephant Award, bestowed upon Prof. Kateregga in recognition of his outstanding contribution to scouting and education in Uganda, the region, and globally. The award, which he received earlier at the 19th Africa Scout Conference in Antananarivo, Madagascar, was formally presented at the ceremony by Prof. Maggie Kigozi, former Executive Director of the Uganda Investment Authority and the chief guest at the event.

In her remarks, Prof. Kigozi described Prof. Kateregga as a distinguished educationist and entrepreneur whose impact transcends borders. She emphasized the rarity and prestige of the African Elephant Award, noting that only four Ugandans have ever received the honor. “Prof. Kateregga’s contribution to education and youth development makes him a national asset,” she said, adding that his leadership within the scouting fraternity has elevated Uganda’s standing on the continental and global stage.

On the occasion, Prof.Kateregga’s Children Ms. Rashidah Kateregga, Resident Director and Vice-Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of Kampala University from Canada; Mr. Faquih Muhamed Kateregga, Deputy Resident Director from Sweden; Ms. Sarah Kateregga, Director of Kampala Film School and university stakeholder from the United Kingdom; Ms. Badria Kateregga, Ms. Sharifah Kateregga, Mr. Fahad Kateregga, all Kampala University stakeholders from the UK; Mr. Faisal Nsubuga, Technical Sports Director, as well as grandchildren who traveled from the UK to be part of the celebration all thanked their father for his generosity, guidance, and firm love, praising him as a pillar of strength and inspiration.

The evening unfolded with sophistication and flair, featuring a first-class dinner and electrifying entertainment. Renowned Ugandan artists Cindy, Vinka, Lydia Jasmine, and a live band thrilled guests with captivating performances, creating an atmosphere of joy and celebration that lasted late into the night.
Beyond the glamour, the event stood as a powerful proof to Prof. Kateregga’s enduring legacy—one rooted in service, vision, and a profound assurance to empowering youth through education and scouting.
