Double Honour as Prof. Kateregga Appointed Chancellor of Kyadondo Technical Institute and New Computer Lab Named After Him

Kyadondo Technical Institute (KTI) has bestowed a double honour upon Owek. Amb. Al-Haj. Prof. Badru Dungu Kateregga, the Founding Vice-Chancellor of Kampala University, in recognition of his exemplary leadership and lifelong contribution to education.

During KTI’s 4th Graduation Ceremony held on 28th August 2025 at Busabala, the Institute’s Principal, Mr. Deus Kanaaba, announced the appointment of Prof. Kateregga as the new Chancellor of Kyadondo Technical Institute. On the same occasion, Prof. Kateregga officially commissioned a state-of-the-art Computer Science Laboratory named after him, the BDK Computer Science Lab, carrying his initials “Badru Dungu Kateregga.”

In his acceptance speech, Prof. Kateregga expressed deep gratitude for the honour and pledged to support the Institute through strong collaboration with Kampala University. “I am delighted to accept this role and commit to walking with Kyadondo Technical Institute in its growth journey.
Kampala University will continue working hand in glove with KTI to support one another across various academic and professional fields,” he affirmed.

Prof. Kateregga, visibly moved by the occasion, reflected on his personal connection with KTI’s leadership, proudly acknowledging that both the Director Mr. Sserwanja Asadu, and the Principal Mr. Kanaaba Deus, are products of Kampala University. “I had the privilege of mentoring these two brilliant leaders in their formative years. Seeing their solid energy  in education and contribution to society, fills me with pride as their teacher and mentor,” he said.

Addressing the graduands, Prof. Kateregga shared key pieces of advice for navigating the world beyond academia, ie to 
value mentorship - seeking wisdom and guidance from experienced leaders, to be  innovators and problem solvers by  applying  knowledge to create practical and lasting solutions. 

He further urged KTI to embrace the Competence-Based Curriculum (CBC) and also integrate language training alongside technical skills to ensure holistic education.

The  Director of KTI, Mr. Asadu Sserwanja, hailed Prof. Kateregga for his unmatched mentorship, and enduring love for his alumni. “Prof. Kateregga has always been a pillar of inspiration. His guidance has shaped leaders and  empowered young people with industry-relevant skills. Indeed, practical knowledge is the gateway to boundless opportunities,” Mr. Sserwanja remarked.

Prof. Kateregga was accompanied by a powerful delegation from Kampala University, including Ms. Rashidah Kateregga (Resident Director and Vice-Chairperson BOT), Mr. Fisal Mubiru, Ms. Naila Florence, and Ms. Achola Caroline.

Kyadondo Technical Institute, located in Busabala, Wakiso District, continues to cement its place as a leading centre of technical education, committed to producing graduates who are  skilled, socially responsible and innovative.
