Kampala University Empowers Over 120 Farmers Through Hands-On Agricultural Training at Luweero Campus

Luweero, Uganda 19th June 2026 – Kampala University Luweero Campus has strengthened its assurance to community transformation and agricultural development by hosting more than 120 farmers from neighbouring communities for a practical agricultural outreach program aimed at improving farming productivity and household incomes.

The event brought together local farmers, agricultural experts, university staff, and students in a knowledge-sharing session conducted at the University's expansive Demonstration Farm. During the program, Kampala University students guided the farmers through practical field trials and demonstrations on maize, sunflower, and banana production, with a special focus on modern soil management practices and sustainable farming techniques.

The outreach initiative provided farmers with an opportunity to learn innovative approaches to crop production, pest management, soil fertility improvement, and best farming practices that can increase yields and improve food security within their communities.

The event was graced by the Resident Director and Vice-Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of Kampala University Ms.Rashida Kateregga, who commended the farmers for the trust and confidence they continue to place in the institution. She reiterated the University's obligation to working closely with surrounding communities to promote agricultural excellence and improve livelihoods.

She noted that Kampala University will continue implementing community-cantered programs that empower farmers with practical knowledge and modern agricultural skills to boost productivity and achieve better harvests. She also expressed gratitude to the farmers for entrusting Kampala University with the education and future development of their children.

The University further recognized the valuable contribution of Syova Seed Company, whose partnership with Kampala University has enhanced agricultural research, demonstration activities, and community outreach efforts aimed at improving crop yields and farming outcomes.

Speaking during the event, several farmers expressed appreciation to Kampala University for organizing the training and creating a platform where they could interact directly with students and agricultural experts. They applauded the practical demonstrations and requested that the University organize similar engagements more frequently to enable continuous learning and technology transfer.

The outreach was attended by several senior members of staff, including the University Administrator and Director of Protocol in the Office of the Vice-Chancellor, Ms. Naila Florence; the University Director of Human Resources, Ms. Aidah Naisanga; the Campus Director, Ms. Sarah Batte; the Campus Administrator, Mr. Munawa Rogers; the Ggaba Campus Accountant, Ms. Stella Nabukenya; alongside other university officials.

Kampala University Luweero Campus has established itself as a centre of excellence in agricultural training and practical learning. The campus boasts extensive agricultural facilities, including large-scale crop gardens, fish ponds, cattle, goats, sheep, poultry projects, banana plantations, sunflower fields, and other agricultural enterprises. These facilities provide students with hands-on experience while serving as demonstration sites that benefit surrounding communities.
