Kampala University Hosts Zanzibar Minister to Strengthen Educational Collaboration

Kampala, Uganda – June 10, 2026

Kampala University on June 10, 2026, had the distinct honour of hosting Hon. Idrisa Kitwana Mustafa, the Minister of State in the President's Office responsible for Regional Administration, Local Government, and Special Departments in the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar, in a visit aimed at strengthening educational cooperation and fostering closer ties between the institution and the people of Zanzibar.

The Minister was warmly received by the Founding Vice-Chancellor of Kampala University, Owek. Amb. Al-Haj Prof. Badru Dungu Kateregga, during a high-level meeting held at the University's Main Campus. The engagement provided an opportunity for both leaders to discuss matters of mutual interest, with particular emphasis on the welfare and academic success of Tanzanian students pursuing their studies at Kampala University.

During the meeting, Hon. Mustafa commended Kampala University for its continued commitment to providing quality, accessible, and affordable higher education to students from across the East African region. He acknowledged the University's significant contribution to human capital development, especially among students from Zanzibar and mainland Tanzania, many of whom have graduated and gone on to serve their communities in various professional capacities.

Prof. Kateregga expressed his appreciation for the Minister's visit and reiterated Kampala University's perseverance to nurturing academic excellence and producing graduates equipped with the knowledge and skills required to address contemporary societal challenges. He emphasized the University's longstanding relationship with the people of Zanzibar and its commitment to strengthening that partnership through enhanced educational opportunities and collaborative initiatives.

The discussions further explored avenues for expanding cooperation in education, research, and human resource development. Both parties underscored the importance of investing in higher education as a catalyst for sustainable development and regional integration within the East African Community.
