Kampala University Shines at 4th Annual Uganda Sickle Cell Convention 2025

JINJA CITY – It was a day of learning, collaboration, and advocacy as Kampala University broadly participates in the 4th Annual Uganda Sickle Cell Convention 2025, held at Jinja City Hall.

The convention, organized by Raising Hope International Friends, brought together key stakeholders under the theme “Unifying Support for Sickle Cell Through Advocacy, Research and Policy Development.”

The high-profile event was graced by Hon. Dr. Musenero Monica Masanza, Uganda’s Minister for Science, Technology and Innovation.

In her keynote remarks, the Minister commended Raising Hope International Friends for forging impactful partnerships, particularly with institutions like Kampala University. “Working with the right educators such as Kampala University is essential. This partnership will greatly contribute to the development of appropriate research and policies in the fight against sickle cell disease,” she noted, pledging her continued support in this cause.

Representing Kampala University, Dr. Wardah M. Rajab Gyagenda, Deputy Vice-Chancellor in charge of Academics, Research, Innovations, and Internationalization, delivered a powerful submission. She emphasized the urgent need for Uganda to re-evaluate its approach to managing sickle cell disease. “We should have free testing and counselling services, formulate a robust management policy, revise budget allocations, and promote collaborative research and awareness,” she stated.

On the same occasion,  a big number of people were tested at a free cost  to determine their status.

Dr. Musenero later visited the Kampala University exhibition stall where she was introduced to PILLOSA PAIN OFF, an innovative multi-use herbal product by Kampala University Body Care Company. She was visibly impressed by the product, which is used to relieve body pain, assist in steaming, treat wounds, soothe fire burns and irritations, and serve as an aftershave solution.
