Kampala University Students Undergo Intensive Hands-On Training to Boost Hospitality Skills
Kampala, Uganda — In a decisive move to bridge the gap between theoretical learning and industry demands, Kampala University has conducted an intensive three-day (1st-3rd May 2026) practical training session for its Tourism and Hospitality Management students, equipping them with essential, real-world skills.
The rigorous program, held at the university’s Ggaba Main Campus, brought together students for hands-on experience in a range of hospitality disciplines. Participants were trained in the preparation of diverse intercontinental dishes, the creation of professional-grade starters, and essential housekeeping practices—key competencies required in today’s competitive hospitality sector.
Organized by the Department of Tourism and Hospitality Management, the training was facilitated by a team of experienced lecturers led by Mr.Katoogo Gonzaga alongside Mr.Wiire Nicholas and Mr. Muhumuza Kabagambe. The instructors emphasized practical engagement, ensuring that students not only observed but actively participated in every aspect of the training.
Speaking during the session, Mr. Wiire underscored the importance of experiential learning in shaping competent graduates. “The hospitality industry demands more than theoretical knowledge. Our goal is to produce graduates who can seamlessly integrate into the workforce with confidence and skill,” he said.
Students expressed enthusiasm about the opportunity, noting that the exposure to real-life culinary and housekeeping scenarios significantly enhanced their understanding and readiness for professional environments.
The department confirmed its assurance to sustaining such initiatives, describing the training as part of a continuous effort to align academic programs with industry expectations. Lecturers pledged that similar practical sessions will be conducted regularly to ensure students remain competitive and relevant in both local and international job markets.
