Kampala University Hosts Regional Scout Delegates, Reaffirms Commitment to Scouting Values
On May 9, 2025, Kampala University’s Ggaba Main Campus proudly hosted a delegation of scouts from the United Kingdom, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, Ethiopia, and Uganda in a landmark event celebrating regional unity and youth development.
The visiting delegates were officially welcomed by Ms. Rashida Kateregga, the Resident Director and Vice-Chairperson of the University Board of Trustees, who delivered a speech on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, Owek. Amb. Al-Haj Prof. Badru D. Kateregga. In her warm address, Ms. Rashidah expressed the university’s honour in receiving the guests and underscored Kampala University’s strong support for the global scouting movement as a vehicle for nurturing responsible and service-driven leaders.
Delivering the Vice-Chancellor’s message, she conveyed Prof. Kateregga’s appreciation to the National Union of Uganda Muslim Students (NUUMS) Executive Committee for his reappointment as Chairman for another term, a role he continues to hold with humility and resolve. She highlighted the Vice-Chancellor’s enduring commitment to scouting, both locally and internationally, especially in his capacity as Chief Scout of Uganda. "This is not merely a title," she said, "but a role he embodies with commitment, humility, and action." Her remarks reflected the university’s broader vision of using education and character, building activities like scouting to foster positive societal change.
Ms. Rashidah urged all attendees to reflect on and recommit to the core values of the scouting movement – trustworthiness, loyalty, service, and integrity – values deeply embedded in Kampala University’s mission. She commended the university’s student scouts, particularly those from Kampala University Nursing School Mutundwe, for their active participation and enthusiasm.
The delegates were led by NUUMS Secretary General Haji Musana Kawanguzi Sulaiman, and the event was attended by several key university officials, including the University Administrator, Ms Naila Florence; HR and PA to the VC, Ms. Carol Achola, Academic Registrar Mr. Segawa Hamza, Operations Consultant Mr. Sharkool Wahab, P.R.O Mr. Julius Ssekatawa, and Mr. Jjemba Alex to mention but a few.
