KU Equips Lecturers with 21st Century Teaching Skills

The teaching staff of Kampala University successfully went through a two-day Pedagogical Training Workshop held at the Ggaba Campus from 22nd to 23rd July 2025 under the theme “Transforming Higher Education Pedagogy – Innovations, Competencies, and Wellbeing in the Digital Era.”

As the new semester commences, management found it timely to organize this workshop to strengthen academic staff capacity in delivering effective, engaging, and technology-driven instruction. The training focused on enhancing teaching practices, refining assessment methods, and improving student engagement strategies to meet the demands of modern higher education.

A major highlight of the workshop was the emphasis on embracing the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC). Facilitators encouraged lecturers to shift from traditional, content-heavy delivery to learner-centered and problem-solving-based approaches. This transformation calls for integrating technology meaningfully into lessons and empowering students to take an active role in their own learning journey.

The workshop was spearheaded by the Dean School of Education, Dr. Peninnah Beinomugisha, and facilitated by different Scholars that include but not limited to ; the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Wardah M. Rajab Gyagenda, Dr. Asiimwe Specioza, Dr. Rebecca Kirunda, Mr.Nsimbi Isaack, Ms.Zena Kibwana, Ms.Brenda N.Kintu, trainers from the National Curriculum Center, and other distinguished education experts.
Speaking during the closing session, Dr. Beinomugisha noted that the training was not just about improving teaching skills but about transforming mindsets. “We must prepare our students for a rapidly changing world, and that begins with rethinking how we teach,” she said.
